About Dash Rummy

Dash Rummy’s beginner guide describes a 13-card hand, drawing from an open or closed pile, and discarding one card each turn. A valid declaration requires a pure sequence and a second sequence, with the hand arranged into valid groups.

What to know about Dash Rummy

Build the required sequences

A pure sequence contains consecutive cards of one suit without a substitute joker. For example, 4♣, 5♣ and 6♣ form one; 4♣, a substitute joker and 6♣ do not. The guide also requires a second sequence, which may use a joker. Three kings can illustrate an equal-rank set, but a set does not replace either required sequence.

Draw, discard and check the whole hand

Pick one card from the closed pile or the face-up open pile, then discard an unwanted card to the open pile. Before declaring, check the required sequences and the remaining groups across all 13 cards. The guide says the declared hand is shown for verification.

A scoring example from the beginner guide

The guide counts cards 2–10 at face value, J/Q/K and an ace at 10 points each, and a joker at zero. If K, 7 and 2 are the ungrouped cards being counted, they total 10 + 7 + 2 = 19 points. It describes zero points for a successful declarer and an 80-point cap per other player in that explanation.
